  14.        Thank  you  for  evaluating  Battling  the  Bill  Collectors. This 
  15.        program is  designed  to  give you the knowledge and tools to deal 
  16.        with bill collectors on your terms.

  18.        When a consumer defaults on payments, the creditor begins  efforts
  19.        to  collect  in  the hopes that they can restore the customer to a 
  20.        current  status,  thereby  preserving  the  account  and   a  good
  21.        customer relationship.  When  a customer  falls  too  far  behind,
  22.        typically  120  to  180  days, the creditor will often hire a debt 
  23.        collector to try to collect the past due  payments  for  them. The 
  24.        consumer is then bombarded with a number  of  collection  tactics, 
  25.        usually in a matter of fact and business-like manner.  Then  there 
  26.        are the debt collectors that use intimidation and even harrassment 
  27.        to collect a debt. If you are being collected from, you  need this 
  28.        program. You have very specific rights  and this program will help 
  29.        you learn what they are. With this program you can remove yourself 
  30.        from falling into the many traps bill colletors  set for you.  You 
  31.        will  be  able  to  stop all  further  collection  attempts,  spot 
  32.        violations of the law and put an immediate  stop  to  harrassment. 
  33.        Perhaps more importantly, you can keep your  sense  of  self-worth 
  34.        through a tough time which few people choose intentionally.

  137.        state  may  have its own laws pertaining to debt collection  which 
  138.        usually  make  an effort to clarify or further restrict unfair and 
  139.        abusive debt collection practices.  You  may  wish  to  check your 
  140.        state's statutes for specifics.

  142.        COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS

  144.        To use  this software you will need, at a minimum, the following:
  145.             1. An IBM XT or compatible (AT or 386 preferable)
  146.             2. At least 512 kilobytes of free RAM
  147.             3. One 360 kb 5 1/4" or 720 kb 3 1/2" floppy disk drive.
  148.             4. EGA, VGA or SuperVGA color monitor.
  149.                (Note: Important color coding is lost with monochrome
  150.                 monitors).
  151.             5. 1 megabytes of free hard drive space
  152.             6. DOS 3.3 or above.

  154.        OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES
  155.  
  156.        1. A mouse  is recommended (Microsoft  is preferable).  However  a
  157.           mouse is not required to use the program.
  158.        2. A printer is necessary if you want to print letters, forms  and
  159.           other information directly from the program.
  160.        3. Microsoft windows PIF and icon files  are  provided  to  assist
  161.           running this program under windows as a DOS application.

  194.        If you  were  given  an  incomplete disk, you  should  notify  the 
  195.        Distributor or person  who  sold (or gave)  you  the disk. If  you 
  196.        cannot obtain a new and complete disk, send your name and  address

  198.        an  evaluation  copy of Battling the Bill Collectors  and  specify

  204.        INSTALLATION TO A HARD DRIVE:

  206.          YOU MUST USE THE INSTALL UTILITY FOR SUCCESSFUL INSTALLATION.

  208.        You will  need to install  this program on  your hard drive. To do
  209.        so, simply  enter  the  command INSTALL  at the DOS  prompt  while 
  210.        logged onto the floppy drive that contains  this  disk. Follow the 
  211.        prompts.

  213.        Once  you have installed the program to your hard drive,  log into
  214.        the directory  where you  installed the program and  type the word
  215.        GO.
